Sfera Agricola s.r.l. it is the largest hydroponic greenhouse in Italy, located in the heart of the Maremma, in Grosseto area; it extends over 13 hectares and the production area of the greenhouse is divided into 6 lots. The first lot, with an area of 2 hectares, is dedicated to salads, cabbage and aromatic herbs grown in DFT or floating and from a small nursery dedicated to these leafy vegetables, while the remaining lots are occupied by tomato grown in substrate for a total of 11 hectares. The highly technological structure wants to be as efficient as possible, for example by reusing local wood chips for boiler operation and rainwater for irrigation.

Role in the project
As a member of TheGreefa consortium, SFERA will mainly contribute to dissemination and communication activities, and Stakeholders engagement for future marketability and provides knowledge for hight technology hydroponics system. It will also support the other partners in comprehensive assessment of the project’s solution.
